Hey!
I just got an advance copy of the Summer Issue of Beautiful Kitchens in which our kitchen was featured. It was so much fun to read the article, look at the photos, and remember all the craziness of the shoot. I hope you run right out and get the magazine. It looks like this:
And because I want you to buy the magazine, I am only showing an image that they didn’t use below.
That’s my kitchen, as shot by the uber talented Tria Giavan. As soon as the magazine hits the stands, I promise to do a full story on the kitchen, breakfast room, where I found what, and I will dish any inside scoop that I can think of. In the meantime, I am so grateful to the former editor, Luann Brandsen and current editor Samantha Hart, and wam and wonderful Bonnie Broten who scouted the kitchen and styled it. And of course, none of it would have happened without Joni Webb and Cote De Texas.
All of us need to keep supporting national shelter magazines, as they are really facing tough economic times. With changes in the chief editor’s post at House Beautiful and Veranda, two of the stalwarts remaining, let’s hope that there remains a deep commitment to keep publishing them. While the digital revolution allows me and other bloggers to show images even as we take them or find them, the reality is that nothing can compare to the quality of photography that magazines are giving us. And I don’t know about you, but for me it’s much more satisfying to reach for a magazine to gaze at a picture for the umpteenth time than it is to call it up digitally.
I love blogging and I love showing images that might not be seen anywhere else, but I see blogs as an adjunct to a thriving magazine business, rather than as a competitor or replacement. And as a designer, I believe that magazines will continue to play a great role in educating the eye and shaping trends. So go out there and buy, buy, buy!

I’m with you! Shelter magazines have been a part of my life since I got married 33 years ago. With my eye and their ideas I have learned so much about creating our home and garden and making it the warm and wonderful place it is. I would be so sad to not be able to sit down and enjoy my magazines. I love the blogs, a quick spin through every morning, but they are nothing like sitting down and reading a magazine, the pictures, the interviews, the ideas. Please please please keep printing shelter magazines!
I agree, nothing will ever be able to replace the satisfaction of holding those mags in hand, the smell of the ink, the feel of the paper, all of it. The Beautiful Kitchens issues are my second favorite, after HB, and yes I will be running out to buy it as soon as it comes out so I can ogle your kitchen to my little heart’s content.
Your kitchen is fabulous – I can’t wait to get a copy of this magazine. Is it available for sale yet?
I too love the pictures and articles in the shelter magazines. Sadly my favorite Southern Accents is no longer. I still miss it but still look through my old issues and never tire of looking at them.
Just found your blog a few weeks ago via Cote de Texas and really enjoy reading and seeing your photos.

Congratulations! Your kitchen is beautiful. No surprise there.
I totally agree with your wanting to support shelter magazines. I love blogs too but, I am giddy when I get a new magazine in the mail or I find a new one I have never seen in the bookstore and I love to go back to my old magazines to get inspiration and to see what looks are staying timeless.

I loved looking at the magazine article on your kitchen . . . in your kitchen!!! You were ROBBED from the cover! Truly. Can’t wait to get a copy for myself and read the great article in detail that accompanied it. You are always inspiring!
Congratulations on having your kitchen published Kristin. I can hardly wait to see the rest of it. It is not just the shelter magazines that are suffering. My favorite venerable Gourmet is no longer with us and it breaks my heart.

Congratulations on Your beautiful Kitchen shoot. I haven’t seen it on our news stand yet, but will pick up a copy when it comes out. I agree with you, we all need to support our design magazines. As a designer it is still my greatest source of inspiration. Besides nothing replaces a good magazine when I want to curl up in the sun and take a break.
When I get a comment in my blog, I want it to be helpful to me and others, not totally random or useless. You should also read other comments so that you are not repeating others and not really adding on to the discussion.
