Fresh Perspective – some changes at Covetable

in This and That

Hello from Snowy Dallas!

Yes, you read that right.  Dallas is blanketed with snow – and no, I do NOT wish to start a forum on climate change here!  I am at the moment having my boys knock snow off of our young birch trees in the back that are bowed under the weight of that fluffy white stuff.  I am weighing whether or not I can get my SUV out of the driveway for an installation I have scheduled today.  And I am recovering from the backache that sleeping on our sofa left me with.  Four of the five of us had to bed down in our family room in front of the fireplace last night as we lost power for most of the night.  Obviously, it’s back up and running.  This photo was taken early yesterday morning.

That blob of snow on the right arm of the statue covers the butterfly that alights very gracefully on her arm and which is visible 364 days a year.  She is a gift to me from my husband – sweet man.

Looking outside of my house and at all that snow has given me fresh perspective on our house, our yard and gardens.  I am looking at it in a whole new way.  And that fresh perspective is carrying through to my blog and website and I am looking at them in a whole new light.   I am revamping my website right now and also making some changes to the blog, so if it’s down for a few hours here and there, you will know why.  I am adding some new images, new blogs to my blogroll, and a couple of bells and whistles.

When I started my blog I wrote that I wanted to explore lots of different things.  This is what I posted: “Covetable Design won’t just be about interior design, but about easy and memorable entertaining, tablescapes and vignettes, and unique projects and clever use of everyday objects. ”   I haven’t done as much writing about entertaining, tablescapes, projects, etc. as I would like and that is going to change.  I love all of these things and I want to share that joy with you.   Good design can and does permeate so many aspects of our lives outside of just  interiors, so I am going to explore that more often.  I am also going to explore more about architecture and garden design as these are also passions of mine.

But let’s talk interiors, shall we?  I started this blog with the intention of showing a lot more photos of my home and my work than I have.   But I started to worry that I might seem self-involved or pretentious, so I slowly began to write more and more about other people and their work.    But after a lot of thought I realized that the reason I started this blog was to share my creative ideas regardless of where or how they manifest themselves.  So, while I will definitely post photos of other people’s work as I have all along, I am going to share more of my own work whether it’s my own home or a project for a client.  I hope that you will like it.

I also hope that you continue to enjoy the blog and will like the tweaking that I’ll be doing.  The best way that you can let me know what you are thinking is to leave a comment – I know you are there, so go on ahead a say hi!

Cheers!

Kristin

I can’t wait to see more of your home and work. I have been waiting for the Christmas decorations that you promised a month ago. I live in PA and we are under 4 feet of snow and I can’t even get to my trees to knock off the snow. MB

I am excited about posting more of my work. I am so sorry about the Christmas decorations – my December was a real fog with my daughter Darcy so sick. By the time I came up for air it was January and I was pretty sure that no one wanted to see more Christmas….
