Thankful

in This and That

Hi!

I have been on a self-imposed hiatus from blogging.  My daughter continues to struggle with some health issues, so I have either been in doctor’s offices or labs for a while.  NOT conducive to any creative thoughts to share with others!

Anyway, I have been thinking about all that I have to be grateful for and, of course, “tis the season to do so.  I have been so blessed in my faith, family and friends and I have a tendency to get caught up in the to do list of the moment that I forget to stop and take time to realize how fortunate I am.  On Thanksgiving, I took a moment from my kitchen frenzy to take these photos of my table for you to see, and as I was clicking away, my dear mom came in to have just a private moment with me.  We didn’t exchange any profound words, just a moment of warmth and love.  Whenever I see these photos, I will remember that moment.  Thank you, Mom, for reminding me what’s important.

This is what the centerpiece looked like looking towards my kitchen.  I stole the hurricanes from my bedroom, the pumpkins from outside, pillars candles from my large stash of candles, and gathered leaves from the yard.  The small white pumpkins are artificial and I found them in one of my favorite little stores, Mary Cate.  The burlap runner got cut from burlap I bought a million years ago at JoAnns.

I have these wonderful Match pewter chargers that my sweet husband gave me for Christmas, and of course you have seen my Petit Sange dinnerware before.  Crystal glass is William Yeoward, and I did my trick of using twine to tie up my oatmeal linen napkins.  The flatware was my best bargain from Roundtop.  I bought a 144 piece set of hotel silver for $100!  How can you beat that?!

I think that they call these pumpkins Cinderella, as they look like the coach that she took to the ball.  I love the shape and subdued color of them, don’t you?  I always try to keep my centerpieces long and low to allow for everyone to see each other, especially if it’s a family gathering where it’s more likely that people will want to talk with everyone at the table.  Although, to be fair, I guess that’s the case with my family – not sure it’s always the case with others!!

The other side of the table.  You can see that I filled the hurricane with coffee beans and circled the pillar with leaves.  While I was lighting the pillars, one of the leaves accidentally caught on fire – what is it with me and fire!- and I quickly blew it out.  As it was smoldering that amazing aroma of burning leaves hit my nostrils and reminded me of childhood.  Too bad it didn’t linger longer…

OK, so for my next posts I am going to show the Christmas decorations that I did last year, probably room by room.  I had a ball doing them and will probably do something similar this year as well.  I LOVE Christmas and I really love how my house looks during the holidays.  If you would like to send me photos of your Christmas decorations, please do!  I would love to post them.  Just let me know in the comments section that you want to send me the pictures, and I’ll e-mail you with my address.  What fun it would be for us all to share our holiday inspirations.

Send me a comment!

As I was reading your post on Thanksgiving decorations and saw what a lovely job you did I was thinking to myself I wish I could see what she does for Christmas and lo and behold you promise it will be your next post. I truly can’t wait. I have never “set” my table but after seeing how beautiful your Thanksgiving table was I wanted to do a Christmas one. So I am waiting, please hurry. xo, MB
PS I hope your daughter’s health is improving and please know that I will say a prayer.

Hi! I’m Kristin’s sister and have been blessed to sit at her beautiful tables for years! Can you believe that these lovely pictures don’t even do her table justice? It’s true! She has such a gift, and it so exciting to see others appreciate it as much as I do!
