Hello All!
I just got an e-mail from one of my favorite antique dealers, Janet Wiebe. She typically shows her wonderful pieces in Austin, but this week she is having an unloading sale in Houston. These are pieces fresh off of the container from the port and you will get first dibs! (pun intended) The show will be March 18 and 19 and if you can be in Houston, you should go! Details here. If you can’t go, Janet will correspond with you about any of these pieces although you might have to arm-wrestle me for one of two of them. Here are some of my favorite pieces from the sale.
I love old books, I really do. I love the pages of old books, the pages of old scores. I am a scriptophile, I guess. Although I love all the variations in color of these books, I also have a soft spot for these.
I first spotted antique vellum books at Roundtop in the spring of 2006 and I was blown away by how beautiful they were. The fascination has remained, I guess.
This is just lovely. The simplicity of the arms and shape is a beautiful counterpoint to the crystals. I also love the size – it is not overbearing and looks as though it would be at home in most American homes.
I would mount these on Lucite stands for a gorgeous mix of modern and vintage. Or maybe use the two longer ones on Lucite stands as lamp bases. Delicious.
Gilded frames or pressed between larger sheets of glass – traditional or edgy, take your pick.
Fantastic planted with orchids or succulents. Or fill it with mercury glass balls or rustic balls of twine or moss balls or seashells.
I love vintage shutters – they add so much texture and interest to a space. They look even more charming with a mirror or framed prints or paintings hanging on them. I actually have two different areas with vintage shutters – my bathroom and our loggia. My bathroom shutters are mahogany, which is perfect for the moisture in the area and our loggia shutters have a wonderful green peeled patina.
Another element that lives in my home! I have a pair of pilasters supporting a marble top for a makeshift table in my entryway. These are beautiful and would be beautiful with a glass or lucite top, as well as stone.
These silver gilt mirrors are so different than the typical gold gilt finish. I wonder if they have been refinished? No matter, they are lovely just as they are – shape, size, finish. Knowing Janet, I am sure that these are well-priced.
Ironstone from France – the detail on these tureens is just gorgeous and the gently crackled finish is so endearing. I love the finials and handles on these. I must may have to have one – I think the one on the left is just so charming. What do you think?
Chair heaven! The patina of this chair is so appealing. Of course the cushion needs to be recovered – chocolate mohair! Or perhaps a chocolate wool pinstripe…
Another beauty. It would look very Ralph Lauren with wool plaid cushions, or you could go very Belgian and do a natural linen. I really love these chairs.
Still one more fantastic chair! I think that is hessian on the back and the caning looks intact. A cushion with vintage textile would be gorgeous….
The lines on this settee are graceful, with beautiful proportions. The upholstery looks to be in very good condition, so all it needs are a pair of throw pillows..
This would be stunning re-upholstered. Linen, leather, velvet – with perhaps a contrasting seat cushion. The scale is perfect. This just needs a little TLC.
If you can’t visit the Unloading Sale, or don’t feel comfortable working with Janet over the phone or online, just pop by her booth at Roundtop, as she will be there. And so will I! Here is the info
